Adopting

How do I adopt a dog?

To apply, please fill out the Online Adoption Application.

Can I choose which dog I want to adopt?

Our policy is to place each Boston Terrier in the perfect home. We consider all factors when matching each dog to each home.

Do you check references? Do you do home checks?

We check veterinary and personal references and perform home checks (sometimes virtually) before placing each dog.

I live outside your region. How can I adopt a dog?

We do not ship dogs. If you are out of state you must travel to meet and adopt the dog. We do not transport. Out-of-state applications (outside MI, IL, IN, OH) still require a home visit, which we will arrange.

What if I change my mind after I adopt a dog?

If you get home and for some reason you change your mind, you must return the dog to MWBTR. Placement fees are non-refundable as stipulated in the adoption contract. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO MEET THE DOG IN PERSON prior to the adoption taking place. This is to ensure a good match on both sides and reduce negative impact to the pup if the adoptive family later change their mind.

How much is the placement fee?

There is a non-refundable, non-negotiable placement fee for each MWBTR adoption. There are sometimes exceptions to these fees, so always check each dog’s Petfinder page for their adoption fee.

Dogs 0-7 years (before dog’s 8th birthday) = $400
Senior dogs 8 years and over = $250

What are the application and placement fees for? Where does that money go?

There is a $20 non-refundable processing fee required at the time you submit your application. As a non-profit group relying solely on donations, this non-refundable fee is needed to help offset administrative costs associated with processing applications. This fee does not guarantee adoption.

Veterinary costs for rescue dogs are significant, and placement fees help to offset these costs.

I applied to adopt a dog awhile ago. Is my application still valid?

Applications are kept on file for 6 months. After 6 months you must submit a new application.
